What are Warts?
Warts are small skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which enters through tiny cuts or breaks in the skin. On the feet—especially the soles—they’re called plantar warts and often grow inward due to pressure from walking. They may appear alone or in clusters and are more common in children, athletes, and those who go barefoot in shared spaces like locker rooms or pools.
Symptoms of Warts
- Rough, grainy growths on the bottom of the foot
- A hard, thickened spot (often mistaken for a callus)
- Pain when walking or standing
- Tiny black dots in the center (clotted blood vessels)
- Warts that spread or recur over time

How We Treat Warts
At Lighthouse Foot and Ankle, we begin with a careful diagnosis to confirm the lesion is a wart. Treatment options include topical medications, cryotherapy (freezing), debridement, or Swift Therapy—a cutting-edge microwave technology that triggers the immune system to target and clear the virus. Dr. Kurlanski tailors each treatment plan based on the wart’s size, duration, and the patient’s age and health needs.

Swift After Results
This patient’s stubborn wart was successfully treated with Swift Therapy. Here, Dr. Kurlanski carefully trims away the remaining tissue to reveal healthy skin underneath. A gentle, effective solution that helps you get back on your feet.
