Dr holding pink orthotics and cuttings them to shape and fit for a patient

Custom-fit orthotics made for your feet—without the long wait.

If you’ve ever worn off-the-shelf insoles or waited weeks for custom orthotics to come back from an outside lab, you know the frustration: inconsistent fit, generic support, and delayed relief. At Lighthouse Foot and Ankle Center, we’ve completely changed that experience by 3D printing your custom orthotics in-house.

Yes, really. We combine the precision of digital technology with medical expertise to design and create orthotics that are built just for you—right here in our office.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Biomechanical Exam & Gait Assessment

Before we print anything, we start with a detailed evaluation of how you move. This includes a biomechanical exam, checking your alignment, foot structure, and how you bear weight during walking and standing. We take the time to understand:

  • Where your pain is coming from
  • What activities you do regularly
  • What type of support your body needs

This is what makes your orthotics truly custom—not just to your feet, but to your life.

Step 2: Digital Scanning

Next, we use advanced scanning technology to capture a 3D model of your feet. It’s fast, accurate, and completely non-invasive. This scan is far more detailed than traditional plaster casting or foam box impressions.

We send the scan to a design team that turns it into a digital file, using your exam findings to build the perfect shape, support zones, and pressure relief areas.

Step 3: In-House 3D Printing

Once the design is finalized, we load the file into our in-office 3D printer and begin the fabrication process. Printing takes about 4 to 5 hours, using durable materials chosen for both support and comfort.

Because we control the entire process, we can monitor quality, make quick adjustments, and even reprint with modifications if needed.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

After printing, we apply the top cover and finish the orthotic with any necessary refinements—this takes about 15–20 minutes. The result? A sleek, custom-fit orthotic ready to go into your shoes that same day or shortly after.

Why 3D Printing Matters

  • Faster Turnaround – No 4 to 6 weeks lab wait. You get relief faster.
  • Greater Precision – Digital scanning means exact fit and optimal alignment.
  • Total Customization – We build the orthotic around your body, not a generic mold.
  • In-House Quality Control – We oversee every step for a truly personalized device.
