Lighthouse Foot and Ankle Center is excited to be the first podiatry practice in Maine, giving patients direct care for foot and ankle pain without insurance regulations. Patients can make an appointment without a referral from their doctor or insurance company. Our wait time for a new patient appointment is much less, and same-day appointments are available. Not participating with insurance has eliminated billing confusion for our office and our patients. We are no longer concerned with co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles, and patients pay at the time of service.
Why choose to pay out of pocket and see a direct care specialist?
Direct care is a relatively new concept for specialists, including podiatry. We may not be a good fit for everyone, but there are several reasons why it may work for you.
You are healthy, have a high deductible plan, and you may never meet your deductible.
You want innovative solutions, not cookie-cutter treatment. We offer treatments not provided at other offices like shockwave therapy, laser therapy, and custom-molded orthotics.
You want to see a specialist who values your time and connects with you as a person. We want our patients to feel validated and heard.
You don't want to feel like a number. We have decreased the number of patients we see daily to provide comprehensive, thoughtful treatments.
You want a doctor that will spend more than 7 minutes with you. We budget ample time to listen to you. We want to hear about your goals and how we can help.
You don't have insurance but want high-quality care. Just because you don't have insurance does not mean you cannot get the care you deserve.
We offer durable medical equipment at a discount rate. Insurance carriers inflate their allowed amount for durable medical equipment, which goes to the patient's deductible.
We make our treatment recommendations on what is best for you, not what your insurance will cover. For example, we do not need prior authorization to do a diagnostic ultrasound. We can do the exam at the time of service.
