When you come in for an appointment...tell us about your shoes!
We get a lot of information about a patient’s condition from their shoes. No other article of clothing has an impact on health like shoes! Shoes can be stylish, functional yet cause or fix foot pain.
We want to know....
1. What are your GO TO shoes! We want to see the wear patterns on your shoes. Is there a hole in the end of your shoe from your big toe?
2. How old are your shoes? If you have foot pain and are wearing shoes over a year old, time to go shoe shopping!
3. What size shoe do you wear? Most men over the age of 55 are wearing shoes that are a half size to a full size too small.
4. What are your favorite shoes? What feels most comfortable?
5. What kind of activities do you like to do? Walking your dog in flip flops is not a good idea. You may not be wearing shoes appropriate for the activity.
6. Does the sock liner come out of your shoe? A lot of folks do not know the sock liner comes out of the shoes to accommodate a custom orthotic or OTC insert.
7. Do you have foot pain while wearing shoes? or feel better with shoes on?
8. Do you wear steel-toed boots at work?
9. Do you rotate your shoes? If you have a standing job alternating shoes will help alleviate foot pain.
10. Do your feet sweat in shoes? Socks with Bamboo or Copper or topical antiperspirant may help.
These 10 questions help us understand the best way we can help all our patients.
