Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Direct Care Podiatry

What is a Direct Care Podiatrist?

A direct care podiatrist does not participate with insurance. We have been a direct care podiatry practice since October 2021. We have less administrative burdens allowing us to spend more time with patients. We can address several issues during a visit rather than having the patient come back for several visits.

Why should I see a direct care podiatrist vs podiatrist who takes my insurance?

We can schedule new patients within a few days of calling for an appointment. Same day appointments are often available. We give you our undivided attention. Our office runs on time and patients are quickly brought back to the treatment room. We are genuinely happy to see our patients.

Can I use my insurance?

Dr. Kurlanski has opted out of Medicare. Patients with Medicare and Medicare Advantage Plans cannot submit a claim to their insurance unfortunately. You can use your insurance for outside testing like MRIs or labs. If you have out of network benefits you can submit a "superbill" to your carrier or you can use the app Reimbursify to submit a claim. www.reimbursify.com

Why did Dr. Kurlanski opt out of insurance?

Dr. Kurlanski found the administrative burden to be overwhelming, constantly changing and took the joy out of treating patients. Taking insurance meant having a volume-based practice seeing 25 to 30 patients per day and having large staff to accommodate the workload. Now we see 8 to 10 patients per day and patients feel cared for.

Do I need a referral from my Primary Care Doctor for an appointment?

No, you do not need a referral. We like when doctors refer patients, but it is not required. Patients can self-refer and call our office directly for an appointment.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Absolutely! You can use your flexible medical spending account for consults, custom molded orthotics, office-based surgery, laser treatment and products in our office.

How long do I have to wait for an appointment?

We have same-day appointments available. We see most patients are seen within a week of scheduling their appointment.
